Welcome to the WMA site

The Waikato Mathematical Association is a voluntary group of mostly Mathematics teachers in the Waikato who meet on a regularly to discuss issues and run professional development for local teachers of mathematics and organise various events.

We run a set of annual events: the WaiMaths competition for Years 7 to 11, and "Scholarship Days" for Year 13 students in Calculus and Statistics. Please see our Events page for further information on these.

We also provide professional development sessions, availabe to any member, focussing on aspects of Mathematics education (at all levels). These are usually Thursday of Week 6 in the term, from 4:30, and run for about 90 minutes.

Each term our committee meets on Thursday of Week 2 in each Term. Any school or anyone with an interest in teaching Mathematics, at any school level, is welcome to come. Please contact one of the Executive (link at the top of the page).

We are the regional body for NZAMT, the NZ Association of Mathematics Teachers. This gives us access to events run by them, such as the yearly Writing Camp, and is the avenue through which local Mathematics teachers can express their opinions and concerns to government, the Ministry and NZQA.
